Situated in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, House Hansen has been designed as a holiday retreat. Architecturally, it is an expression of the office and home owner’s priority to soften the approach and entrance along a residential street scape. It achieves this by lowering the street boundary wall, spreading the building mass and height back into the property, framing pockets of views, and inserting landscaped courtyards throughout. The building creates social and visual connections to the street when the screen walls along the boundary are opened.

The main building mass sits further back into the site and is perched above a planted roof of natural fauna overlooking the coastal view. It’s most prominent feature boasts two vaulted brickwork arches, complimented by refined and simple building mass as well as a muted material palette of bagged brick work, timber and glass. Internally, the spaces are characterized by natural light and openings onto views or landscaped courtyards.

Construction of the residence is expected to begin in early 2023.
